The Story of Wet Season
When The mountain is hungry, the Lili Pili will flower, to attract insects to help pollinate the flowers to bring on the fruit. When the fruit is ripe, the storms will rumble and shake the trees to drop the fruit and the rain will flood the rivers that will carry the fruit to the mountain. The mountain will show he’s no longer hungry by calling to Mother Earth to cease the rain and allow the floods to head out to sea. Whenever you see Lili Pili Trees start to fruit, you will know the rain season is on its way.
Artist Bio
Tyrone Taylor is a proud descendant of the Yalanji People who are the Traditional Custodians of Julaymba (Daintree Rainforest). His ancestors and family have strong cultural connections to Buru-Warra, (country on the western side of Julaymba). Tyrone was born and raised on Gubbi-Gubbi Country (Sunshine Coast, Qld) and now resides on Jerrinja/Wandi-Wandanian Country at Callala Bay. Tyrone works in Indigenous Affairs to help ensure Aboriginal people have the best possible opportunities in life.
His paintings are to honour and pay respects to his late Uncle who taught Tyrone all about Country, Culture, and his family ties. This painting in one of many stories shared by his Uncle when Tyrone would return to country and spend time with him each year. It is also a way to keep his Uncle's legacy alive.
