The Story of Dabway
Dabway - Black Messenger Bird is the only animal able to communicate the stories from our ancestors and other animals. When you see Dabway, you must stop and listen because Dabway could be sharing stories from the Ancestors. If you don’t pay attention, you will miss the messages from the past.
Artist Bio
Tyrone Taylor is a proud descendant of the Yalanji People who are the Traditional Custodians of Julaymba (Daintree Rainforest). His ancestors and family have strong cultural connections to Buru-Warra, (country on the western side of Julaymba). Tyrone was born and raised on Gubbi-Gubbi Country (Sunshine Coast, Qld) and now resides on Jerrinja/Wandi-Wandanian Country at Callala Bay. Tyrone works in Indigenous Affairs to help ensure Aboriginal people have the best possible opportunities in life.
His paintings are to honour and pay respects to his late Uncle who taught Tyrone all about Country, Culture, and his family ties. This painting in one of many stories shared by his Uncle when Tyrone would return to country and spend time with him each year. It is also a way to keep his Uncle's legacy alive.
For every towel sold we donate $1 to Tangaroa Blue Foundation, an organisation dedicated to cleaning and protecting our oceans.
