The origin of Amity Blue
Hi I am Katie founder and owner of Amity Blue
I live in the gorgeous little coastal town Agnes Water in Queensland
Up until 2 years ago my husband and I were tour guides, showing off remote sites of Australia but when Covid hit we lost our jobs and I had to re-think my career path.
I wanted to do something that had a positive impact on our environment. I’ve spent most of my life by the beach and over the years have seen a frightening amount of plastic rubbish accumulate in our oceans and waterways. This was my inspiration to do something with plastic waste.
After many months of research, I found an amazing product, sand resistant beach towels that were made from 80% recycled plastic bottles. This made a lot of sense to me, considering the billions of plastic bottles discarded into landfill or our waterways each year. These towels offered so many other benefits, they were antimicrobial, odour free, ultra-absorbent, quick drying and super compact. I saw a fantastic opportunity to create a beautiful, quality product that was environmentally friendly. Now for every 25 plastic bottles gathered, we produce a world class sustainable item.
The name Amity Blue to me means Friends of The Ocean. I’m passionate about delivering a luxurious high-end product that uses waste plastics. Recycling and reusing are our future and I want to be a part of this movement. Amity Blue is now proud to offer a selection of beautiful towels in varied sizes and designs. We are in the process of expanding our range and new ideas are always presenting themselves.
We look forward to a bright and exciting 2022.
